Slow Work Day

As it is getting closer and closer to Christmas, I am finding less and less tasks arriving in my work inbox because most of our clients have already booked their Christmas ad-time. Unfortunately, this means that over the past week I have been struggling to effectively fill my time and help the business while I am working there. While I have been struggling to fill my time, a lot of my colleagues have been very busy and I feel uncomfortable bothering them to ask what they need doing. This can make me feel a bit lost and like my role is not very important.

On reflection, I know I have to be a bit more pro-active and confident. As an intern in a new job I often suffer from imposter-syndrome, however, the best way to get over this is to ask more questions and offer help whenever I can.

TV Advert

Today I was a runner on the set of a TV advert the station had been commissioned to develop. At first, I felt very nervous as I had never had experience working on a professional set before. To combat this I tried to keep myself busy and made myself useful where ever I could. It was interesting to watch the filming process, it helped me to understand the organisational process that the team have to go to. All of their shots were planned and listed so they could be as efficient with their time as possible - it was all listed on a spreadsheet with the shot description. While the actors and the team were on a break I made sure to help out my cleaning up and tidying the set, the director praised me for being so proactive and said that he really appreciated my help.
